IS ALL SET FOR D’BANJ TO FAIL?

After watching the way the media went abashed with talks of the greatest entertainer ever, for pulling a very large crowd to the industry night which hosted himself and his brother, K-switch. All that was on my mind was the fact that; firstly there was a free crowd and secondly, it was D’banj’s first industry night since the introduction of the trend and also simultaneously first as a single artiste.

No doubt the man referred to by rapper Olamide as “Banga Lee” (What exactly does this mean??), is perceived by many people as very talented but I beg to differ, he is not as good as we all think he is. Now let me state my arguments before I get crucified. When D’banj was with Mohits, he had a choice of getting a song from an averagely impressive rapper, extremely talented singer with mind blowing ways of coming up with hit songs in Wande Coal, an interesting act with weird ways of popping up with party anthems in D’prince and definitely an awesome producer in Don Jazzy, who would merge all these including his voice just to lay it at the feet of D’banj.

He couldn’t fail with this kind of cast, never! Not even in a million years.

Now the future is here with D’banj but without that very solid iron cast. What he has is a not yet proven but averagely talented younger brother K-switch, and a relatively unknown singing act, Jsol and not to forget; his singing sesame twin too. This feels like a P.O.P cast that would not stand the test of time. The album “D Kings Men” (DKM) is set to drop and I have to say that D’banj is still reaping the fruits of his Mo’hits days.

Something his ex-team mates have moved on from. D’banj still goes to shows and sings songs of his previous albums and when he starts with songs on this DKM, he quickly runs out of options. D’banj should get this – he would fail on his album then he would gather himself and sit up and then slowly but painstakingly convince us that without a ‘Super sports’ to play his songs in our heads for one month, he can still make us move to his music.
